Concept Note

Wildlife forensics is an interdisciplinary field that combines principles of biology, ecology, and criminal justice to combat wildlife crime and aid in conservation efforts. As human activities increasingly impact wildlife, the need for advanced forensic techniques to protect biodiversity has become more pressing. This concept note outlines a comprehensive approach to wildlife forensics, focusing on conservation, crime prevention, and the development of new methodologies.

Theme 1: Wildlife Ecology, Monitoring and Landscape Conservation

Population ecology, species–habitat relationships, landscape ecology, fragmentation, biodiversity assessment, monitoring and protected-area management, together with camera trapping, bioacoustics, eDNA, remote sensing, drones, GIS and AI.

Theme 2: Wildlife Forensics, Crime Investigation and Conservation Protection

Wildlife crime-scene investigation, molecular and genetic forensics, pathological and digital evidence, species and individual identification, wildlife crime detection and prevention, and evidence-based wildlife protection.

Theme 3: Wildlife Health, Veterinary Science and Conservation Medicine

Wildlife diseases, epidemiology, disease surveillance, pathology, veterinary care, rehabilitation, emerging and zoonotic diseases, One Health and wildlife health assessment.

Theme 4: Human–Wildlife Interactions and Conservation Action
